ACT Statement: Trump Executive Orders January 2025

On Day One of his second term, President Trump signed a number of executive orders aimed at resurrecting the xenophobic rhetoric and policies our communities have fought so hard to eliminate—policies that unabashedly and indiscriminately strip working people, immigrants, and communities of color of the safety and prosperity this country has promised for generations.

While the executive orders are alarming, they are not surprising. They are exactly what he and his administration declared they would do and boldly build upon a narrative that no American should accept—that those who seek protection and a better life for themselves are to be feared, villainized, and eliminated.

President Trump is picking up where he left off, forging ahead on his mission to erode the beautiful diversity that defines this nation. From gutting DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) programs to attempting to mobilize the U.S. military at the border, and eliminating critical environmental justice initiatives across the federal government—how can our communities feel safe?

Right now, there is an opportunity to address the real issues facing Americans: skyrocketing rent, unaffordable healthcare, stagnant wages, and inadequate worker protections. Yet, instead of seizing this moment to enact meaningful change, President Trump has chosen to focus on myths and fearmongering, seeking to dismantle the very systems that offer hope and opportunity to so many.

Whether you are undocumented or a multi-generational American, Trump’s actions send the same message—that being worthy of protection and value in this country is reserved for a select few.

We stand firm in our fight for dignity and freedom for all people and will continue to push back against further attacks on our immigrant communities.
