THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION HAS A DUTY TO PROTECT HAITIAN MIGRANTS
Washington, D.C.- We have all witnessed the compounding crises that have fallen on the Haitian people. It should come as no surprise that so many were left with no other choice, but to seek asylum. Since January, the Biden administration repeatedly promised that they would prioritize the safety of Haitians, but have refused to act on those promises. President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas have an opportunity and an obligation to stand by the promises they have made and reaffirm our country's commitment to being a nation that welcomes immigrants and refugees.
We stand in solidarity with hundreds of organizations across the country that are calling on President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas to take immediate and swift action. We demand that the administration:
Stop all deportations of Haitian migrants.
Terminate the draconian Title 42 CDC border order.
Grant humanitarian parole to Haitian migrants to allow them to be moved to safer conditions.
Provide humanitarian assistance to Haitian migrants at the border, including shelter, water, food and health care.
Investigate the CBP's horrific abuse of Haitians at the border, including the use of whips, or whip-like devices.
Seeking asylum is a human right that must be protected for all asylees.
