Read about the March Member of the Month, Arnaud Adjovi! Arnaud has been a member of African Communities Together since October 2015.

Where are you from?

I am from Benin Republic.

What is one of your fondest memories you have from back home in Benin?

One of my fondest memories from Benin was when I worked as a community organizer. I was chosen to be the community organizer from the youth in my area. It was a huge honor.

In what ways are you active in the African community in New York City?

Today, I work as the Community Organizer at the Benin Alliance in NY, NJ, and CT. I also serve as the Executive Organizer with the Benin Diaspora USA. I like being active in the African community, especially within the French-speaking African diaspora network.

What is one of your hobbies that you enjoy doing in your free time?

One of my favorite hobbies is traveling.

How have you been involved with ACT?

I have been involved with ACT since October of 2015. I first attended one of the New Member Orientations at their Bronx office. I was particularly interested in ACT's work around language access. By the end of the month, I was meeting with ACT staff and other African community members for a meeting about interpreters and how I can use my French language skills to help the broader African immigrant community. I am looking forward to continue my work with ACT in this area.

What is one goal you have for the African community moving forward?

My goal for the African community is for peace, understanding, and love to grow between one another. In addition, I hope to soon see greater collaboration between African immigrants and organizations in NYC so our community can become more independent.
