Statement on the Termination of Temporary Protected Status for Cameroon

We are deeply concerned by the government’s decision to terminate Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Cameroon, despite the ongoing armed conflict and humanitarian crisis in Cameroon that has made it unlivable for so many citizens. This action will strip many members of our community of a critical, life-saving protection that has allowed them to work and live in the United States without fear.

The ongoing armed conflict and humanitarian crises in Cameroon clearly meet the statutory requirements for TPS extension and re-designation. Ending this protection—particularly after the statutory deadline—raises serious legal concerns and undermines our country’s commitment to protecting vulnerable populations.

There is still time for the Administration to reverse this decision and uphold the principles of justice, compassion, and human rights that TPS was designed to embody, and we strongly urge them to do so.
